Hi Bryn 😍
First of all, I just wanna take this opportunity to thank you for your support.
And also, thank you for this wonderful question. As someone whose skin is on the drier side, this is a topic that I’m personally invested in. And I’d love to discuss it today.
Let’s briefly talk about why your skin tends to be so dry in the winter.
During this time of year, the humidity level in the atmosphere decreases. The weather also becomes colder. Both of these factors cause the water in your skin to rapidly evaporate, leaving it feeling dry and tight.
This information is very important, as knowing the “why” is the first step to figuring out the solution.
How to increase hydration in the skin
Oh, and feel free to spray your face with it throughout the day, too. I do it whenever I feel like my skin needs an extra boost of hydration.
You should also look for humectants in your skincare products (aka. ingredients that attract water to your skin), such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid. Staying true to our values, we made sure to include a vegan version of hyaluronic acid in our Supermoon Serum. This ingredient is derived from senna and it binds water to your skin like nothing else.
However, just adding more water to your skin isn’t enough. All that water will just evaporate once you go outside in the cold anyways.
So what should you do?
Seal in all that water with a thick occlusive
So what's an occlusive? Well, it's a thick cream or oil. Its main function is to create a physical layer on top of your skin to prevent water from evaporating. And we especially need them in the winter to prevent our skin from becoming drier.
Whether you use a cream or oil is totally a personal choice.
Personally, I use both.
After applying a toner and a water-based serum, I go in with a heavy moisturizer. My favourite is Berry Rich Face + Eye Cream. This is my go-to moisturizer in the winter. It has a beautiful velvety texture that leaves my skin feeling healthy and balanced. Not to mention, it has vegan probiotics to support the skin microbiome and reinforce the skin barrier.
To top it all off, I use Moon Boost Serum to seal everything in. It has a beautiful complex of superfood oils that deeply nourish the skin.
And that’s it. My skin is left with a glow, feels healthy and is ready to tackle winter.
