#AskGraydon: How Do I Prevent Neck Wrinkles?

Want to know how to take care of your neck to prevent signs of premature aging? Then read on for my top three tips.

Hi Julie, 😍

First of all, I just wanna take this opportunity to thank you for your support.

I also want to thank you for this great question. Funnily enough, we pay lots of attention to the skin on our face. We cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate and moisturize it. But we seem to forget that the skin on our neck also needs some TLC! In fact, since the skin on our neck is thinner and more delicate, we need to care for it even more.

So how do you take care of your neck to prevent signs of premature aging?

My first tip: Don’t stop at just your face! Extend your skincare routine down to your neck and décolleté as well.

Start with a double cleanse to gently and thoroughly remove any impurities. Aloe Milk Cleanser and Face Foam are the perfect double cleanse duo! Next, apply a serum that’s packed with pro-aging ingredients such as retinoids. Fullmoon Serum is formulated with botanical retinol from moth bean extract to help increase collagen production and decrease the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Then top it all with an ultra-moisturizing cream. Phyto Clear or Berry Rich are great choices, but if your neck skin is more sensitive, you may want to try Skin Stuff or Putty instead.

My second tip: Be mindful of your posture!

How much time do you spend with your head aimed down at a computer or phone?

With the rise of technology, most of us have “tech neck.” This is when the muscles in your neck are strained due to poor posture while using your phone, tablet and computer. This leads to neck and shoulder pain, stiffness and soreness. It also induces some premature lines and wrinkles on your neck.

Our skin’s collagen content naturally starts decreasing in our mid-twenties. That means the lines that form while staring down at our devices slowly become fixed and deeper. Of course, this position can’t be completely eliminated. Try to decrease your screen time (if possible) and make an effort to improve your posture while looking at your screens.

To aid in your everyday activities, consider investing in a standing desk or a laptop stand. These useful tools will help you to keep your head facing forward instead of downward.

My third tip: Practice yoga regularly.

As a former yoga instructor, I’ve come to appreciate the transformational benefits that practicing yoga can bring to you.

Some excellent yoga poses for “tech neck” are the Baby Cobra, the Camel and the Pigeon. They can all help to straighten your back, strengthen your posture and ease the tension in your shoulders and neck. I recommend spending 5-10 minutes a day practicing these poses. It may not seem like a lot, but it’ll help tremendously.
