Know Your Algae

With so many super greens out there, it can be hard to keep track of what's what! So we want to break down some ingredients for you, so you know your algae!

Chlorophyll

Chlorophyll is a pigment that's naturally produced by plants and algae and gives them their characteristic green color. It's critical for photosynthesis, the process by which sunlight is converted into energy.

Chlorophyll helps to remove toxins that have built up in your cells over time and also helps nourish your 'hungry' cells with trace minerals which are essential for skin to thrive, not just survive. It's also a great source of antioxidants!

Find it in Matcha Mint Shampoo, Hair Smoothie and Phyto Clear.

Chlorella

This algae is rich with phytonutrients, including amino acids, chlorophyll, beta-carotene, potassium, phosphorous, biotin, magnesium and the B-complex vitamins. It also contains antioxidants, vitamin C and iron.

Chlorella’s rich green color comes from a high concentration of chlorophyll. That's right - chlorella is an algae that contains chlorophyll! Chlorophyll provides the green colour, plus an extra bevvy of benefits. Get it?

Find it in Phyto Clear

Spirulina

Spirulina is another form of algae, that contains potent antioxidants that help fight against free radicals and slows down signs of aging.

Spirulina isn’t just one of the world’s healthiest foods – it’s also one of the oldest. In fact, the Aztecs reportedly used it as a food source in 16th century (likely because it is rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, as well as the minerals potassium, calcium, chromium, copper, iron and magnesium!).

So why is this so different than chlorella? Chlorella is a green algae, whereas spirulina is blue-green in color. Chlorella’s green hue demonstrates that it’s richer in chlorophyll than spirulina.

Find it in Face Glow

Blue Majik

Okay, one more to know! This one is also a blue-green algae like spirulina, but grown so specially that it gets its own name.

Blue Majik® is rich in minerals and protein-building amino acids, vitamins & minerals to help slow down visible signs of aging and improve skin firmness and texture.

Find it in Face Foam and Berry Rich
